Hidden Treasures

In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge..
Colossians 2:3 (ESV).

After the birth of Jesus, star scholars from the East come in. They kneel down and worship. Then they unpack their treasures and give the baby Jesus the finest products of their country: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Today Jesus comes to us and brings us gifts from God's hand.

Let's find out what Jesus wants to give us this year at Christmas? Jesus gives
  • first he gives himself
  • valuable gifts at Christmas time
  • his love, which is not dependent on achievement
  • inner peace that drives away fear and anxiety
  • Christmas means that He gives us all divine treasures!

1. He wants to give us treasures of wisdom and understanding!

Wisdom means: insight into the fullness of things and the interconnectedness of life. Humans gain it partly from experience, but always as a gift from God.

The word knowledge is derived from recognizing and means: to recognize, get to know, feel, experience, understand. Hebrew: to care for someone!

Let us daily ask for this wisdom and knowledge. Jesus has infinitely more treasures of heavenly goods.

2. Let us take note of a second treasure

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.
Matthew 12:35 (ESV)

In a figurative sense, a treasure is what a person carries and keeps in their heart. Good or evil. A good treasure is obedience to God.

This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your precepts.
Psalm 119:56 (ESV)

3. Do we also have gifts and treasures to delight our Lord?

What can we bring to Jesus?
  • we can bring Jesus above all to ourselves
  • our heart – as it is, with joy, doubt, guilt, and hope
  • we can entrust him with our decisions and worries
  • our time and attention – in prayer, and in listening to his word
  • a visible love for other people
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV)

And Solomon writes:
My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe[6] my ways.
Proverbs  23:26 (ESV).

We could also list all generations here.
  • First, the Lord wants our hearts
  • then follow further steps on his paths, on which he wants to lead us
  • Christmas means that he gives us all divine treasures!
  • Above all, he wants us to belong to him with body and soul!
