The Mystery of Faith

1. What Is a Mystery?

A mystery is, first of all, something that is not known to everyone—something that is hidden.

A divine mystery is something that is beyond human understanding and can only be revealed through divine revelation. Such mysteries are revealed either directly by God or through a person who is filled with the Spirit of God.

2. Pharaoh of Egypt Has No Answers

Pharaoh had a dream that he could not understand or interpret. He told all his fortune-tellers and wise men about it, but none of them could explain the dream.

Then the cupbearer remembered something. There was a young man in prison who could interpret dreams.

Joseph was immediately brought before Pharaoh. Pharaoh told him about his dream, and Joseph was able to interpret it. Through Joseph, God revealed what was about to happen.

Afterward, Joseph was appointed second-in-command over all of Egypt, under Pharaoh.

See Genesis 41.

3. Paul and His Fellow Worker

Paul was on one of his missionary journeys. After passing through the city of Derbe, he arrived in Lystra, where he met Timothy.

The name Timothy means “honoring God.” His father was Greek, while his mother, Eunice, was a Jewish believer. His grandmother was named Lois. From childhood, Timothy had been taught the Holy Scriptures by his mother and grandmother.

Timothy was highly respected by the believers in Lystra and Iconium. Paul chose him to accompany him on his missionary journey.

Timothy faithfully carried out the tasks Paul entrusted to him.

4. The Gospel Reaches Europe

Paul and his fellow workers proclaimed the Gospel, and their message was confirmed by signs and miracles.

In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed and called out, ‘Stand up on your feet!’ At that, the man jumped up and began to walk. Acts 14 :8-10 (NIV)

5. There Is Only One God

There is only one God, and there is also only one mediator between God and humanity—the one who brings God and people together in peace.

His name is Jesus Christ.

He gave His life as a ransom to set us free from the power of evil.

6. The Mystery of Faith

Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing to you with these instructions so that,if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

16 He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit,[4] was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:

He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit,

was seen by angels, was preached among the nations,

was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

1 Timothy 3:14-16 (NIV)

The mystery of faith that has been entrusted to us can only be held onto with a clear and sincere conscience.

See 1 Timothy 3:9.

7. Die Botschaft Gottes

the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:26-27 (NIV)

We Are to Carry This Mystery in Our Hearts

Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
John 14:23 (NIV)
