In Search of Happiness

Deutsch English “The world is a place of happiness for everyone,” that was her message. She sent her New Year’s greeting in Gujarati. Curious, I used a translation program because I wanted to understand. It sounds beautiful. Too beautiful, I think. Gujarat is a state on the west coast of India, just below Pakistan, almost as large as Austria. A region that devotes itself intensely to the worship of gods like Krishna, Rama, and Ambe with poetry, music, and devoted Bhakti Yoga. Hinduism plays a major role in Gujarat; it is considered one of the great world religions, or rather three, as it is a collection, an encyclopedia of different religious and philosophical concepts. There isn’t just one god, but many gods, whose rank and appearance change. For me, that’s out of the question, far too opaque. Auf der Suche nach Glück

Deutsch English „Die Welt ist ein Ort des Glücks für alle“, das war ihre Nachricht. Sie versandte ihren Neujahrsgruß in Gujarati. Neugierig nahm ich ein  Übersetzungsprogramm zu Hilfe, denn ich will verstehen. Klingt schön. Zu schön denke ich. Gujurat ist ein Staat an der Westküste Indiens, direkt unter Pakistan, fast so groß wie Österreich. Eine Region die sich sehr stark der Verehrung von Göttern wie Krishna, Rama und Ambe hingibt mit Poesie, Musik und hingebungsvollem Bhakti Yoga. Der Hinduismus spielt in Gujurat eine große Rolle, er gilt als eine der großen Weltreligionen, halt besser 3, er ist ein Sammelsurium, eine Enzyklopädie von unterschiedlichen religiösen und philosophischen Konzepten. Es gibt nicht einen Gott, sondern viele Götter, deren Rang und Erscheinen sich ändert. Für mich kommt das nicht in Frage, viel zu undurchsichtig. Deutsch English “Time is grace,” we read on some walking clocks modeled after the church tower clock in the Wetzlar suburb of Büblingshausen. This church tower clock does not have a dial in the usual sense. Instead of numbers, the individual letters of the sentence T I M E    I S    G R A C E are displayed. The Holy Scriptures speak a lot about time. Horst Marquardt says: Whoever aligns their life with God's commandments will neither become arrogant nor reckless in good times. And in evil times, the burden will not weigh them down so much that they can no longer continue. Time is a grace for everyone who takes their time from God's hands and tries, trusting in Jesus Christ, to make the best out of every hour. You often hear the saying, I don't have time. Begrenzte Zeit

Deutsch English Zeit ist Gnade lesen wir auf mancher Wanderuhr, die der Kirchturmuhr im  Wetzlarer Vorort Büblingshausen nachgestaltet ist. Diese Kirchturmuhr hat kein Ziffernblatt im üblichen Sinn. Statt der Zahlen stehen die einzelnen Buchstaben des Satzes: Z E I T   I S T   G N A D E . In der Heiligen Schrift wird viel von Zeit gesprochen. Horst Marquardt sagt: Wer sein Leben nach Gottes Geboten ausrichtet, wird in der angenehmen Zeit weder übermütig noch leichtsinnig. Und in der bösen Zeit wird ihn die Last nicht so weit niederdrücken, dass er nicht mehr weiterkönnte. Zeit ist Gnade für jeden, der seine Zeit aus Gottes Händen nimmt und im Vertrauen auf Jesus Christus das Beste aus jeder Stunde zu machen versucht. Oft hört man diesen Ausspruch, ich habe keine Zeit.
