The returning Lord

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:2-3 (ESV)

After my father passed away, I saw him in a dream in a luxurious apartment, with a beautifully landscaped park. The apartment was furnished with finely upholstered furniture. I said to my father: "You've never lived so beautifully during your entire earthly existence!"

Then I woke up. I got my Bible and looked up what criteria to consider when one is suddenly called away, or when Jesus would soon rapture his church?

1. The direction of gaze is crucial.

Countless people look at super athletes, Superman, supermarkets, and corporate mergers. One observes the ever-increasing arms race.

David writes in the Psalms:

I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 (ESV)

What are we looking at? Is our focus also directed towards Jesus' imminent return?

The parable of the ten bridesmaids: All fell asleep because the bridegroom delayed. But at midnight, they were awoken with the call:

The bridegroom is coming! Get up and greet him!

Then they quickly prepared their lamps. But only those who had enough oil in their lamps went into the wedding hall when the bridegroom arrived! Later, the other five came. They stood outside and called: Lord, open the door for us!' But he replied: What do you want? I do not know you!According to Matthew 25:1-13

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Matthew 25:13 (ESV)

In an old gospel song it says: Hear the voice of the bridegroom: Behold, I come soon! Oh, that the virgins would watch when Jesus' call sounds. Is your lamp burning, do you have enough oil? Terrible is the deceit when one does not have enough oil.

2. Other criteria are my inner alignment with God

The central point of Christian life is the faith in Jesus as the Son of God and the Savior of the whole world.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8 (ESV)

A striking example of this is Enoch, who walked with God all the time. This means: to walk with someone always and to live in close communion with him, by day and by night, so that we have the testimony of Him, we are pleasing to Him. Enoch had this testimony.

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. Hebrews 11:5 (ESV)

Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13 (ESV)

3. A final test stone

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)

Dear readers of the Christian impulses, when do we want to engage with the coming of Jesus? We cannot console ourselves by saying that our Lord is not coming for a long time.

For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay.
Hebrews 10:37 (ESV)

According to biblical signs, Jesus Christ will soon appear and take away his bride congregation.
