Future and Hope

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7 (ESV)

1. God has not forgotten me

Sometimes there are situations in our lives in which we feel far away from God. Things go wrong, circumstances build up around us like a wall that we can no longer see past.

2. The Lord is in control

There is a variety of medical equipment in every European hospital. Some do simple tasks, some literally keep people alive.

It is absolutely vital that the hospital continues to have enough power - this is a matter of life and death.

And yet none of us feel guilty or unworthy of turning on the television in the evening, even though the hospital needs the electricity much more urgently! Why? Because we trust the electricity supplier to be able to supply enough electricity for all of us. We don't question that for a moment!

But how often do we question whether God has enough attention, enough patience, enough love for us!

3. We are under God's protection

God knows us better than we know ourselves - even the hairs on our heads are numbered.

And although for some of us it gets easier every year to count the remaining hairs on our heads, the point that Jesus wants to emphasize here is probably this: God the Father cares about the details of our lives! Our well-being is important to him.

There is a song that says:

Yesterday is over - tomorrow is not yet here - today the Lord will help.

4. He loves us as his children

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. 2nd Chronicle 16:9 a (ESV)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

eep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”« Hebrews 13:5-6 (ESV)

Song: So take my hands and lead me to my happy end and forever. I don't like to walk alone, not a step; Wherever you go and stand, take me with you. (Philip Friedrich Silcher)

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Numbers  6:24-26 (ESV)
