Three special gardens

DE Deutsch  EN English

1. The Garden of Eden, paradise

And so it continued after the Lord God created the heavens and the earth.

Then the Lord God planted a garden in the land of Eden, and brought there the man whom he had formed. He allowed many fruitful trees to grow in the garden. Their fruits looked delicious and tasted good.

In the middle of the garden stood two trees: the tree whose fruit gives life, and the tree that reveals good and evil. A river rose in Eden and watered the garden.

The garden had favorable living conditions for flora and fauna. He served people, both through the shade of trees and through their fruits.

The Lost Paradise:

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”  Genesis 3:1 (ESV)

The serpent, the epitome of sin, which does not stop at the garden, seduced Adam and Eve. The intimate fellowship with God who visited her in the evenings no longer existed. They had to leave the garden. That was a painful goodbye. An angel guarded the entrance to the Garden of Eden.

There was a future for Adam and Eve to be defeated by the Son of God in the Garden of Gethsemane. Victory happened on the cross when Jesus died for our sins.

However, the goals are open to every person. He can decide for or against God between obedience and disobedience.

2. Solomon's Palace Gardens

Solomon the King of Israel. He was a unique king. He was very rich and famous and very active. He searched and researched. His thoughts: What's the point?

...and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the children of man to do under heaven during the few days of their life. I made great works. I built houses and planted vineyards for myself. I made myself gardens and parks, and planted in them all kinds of fruit trees. I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees..  Ecclesiastes 2:3b-6 (ESV)

Solomon's sayings bubble up like a spring.

He wants us to see into the beauty of his colorful variety of plants and parks. He thought of us humans. Not only thought, but he acted to make people happy.

We humans have been given five senses by God, the Creator of heaven and earth. With which we can see, hear, smell, taste, touch and feel. We are richly gifted by God. With these gifts we can discover the beauties that surround us.

A walk in a beautiful garden brightens the mind and drives away bad moods.

3. Our heart is a garden

For the Lord comforts Zion; he comforts all her waste places and makes her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song.  Isaiah 51:3 (ESV)

And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.  Isaiah 58:11 (ESV)

A irrigated garden produces fruit. Jesus says:

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 (ESV)

Fruit that the Holy Spirit produces:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22+23 (ESV)

Song: Go out, my heart, and seek joy in your God's gifts in this dear summer time; Look at the beautiful gardens and see how they have adorned themselves and adorned themselves for me and for you. Text: Paul Gerhardt
