All Kinds of Blessings

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3 (NIV)

Paul begins by speaking of all kinds of blessings. As he continues, his words overflow with enthusiasm as he devotes the Epistle to the Ephesians to the riches of our blessings in the heavenly realms.

1. Spiritual Blessings According to Ephesians 1
  • Redemption through the blood of Jesus and the
    forgiveness of sins (v. 7)
  • God reveals the riches of His grace to us (v. 7)
  • Understanding God’s purpose and plan (v. 9)
  • The Spirit of wisdom and revelation (v. 17)
  • The eyes of our hearts being enlightened (v. 18)

2. The Fullness of Divine Blessings

...that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:19b (NIV)

The Greek word plērōma means “fullness” or “completeness”—coming to full maturity and receiving the fullness of God’s blessings. Ona sancta refers to a full Pentecostal testimony.

We have all already received many spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms.

According to Colossians 2:2–3, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ.

3. The Word of Wisdom

The word of wisdom does not arise from human intelligence, but from divine inspiration. It is an illumination and inspiration of the Spirit.

During a time of severe persecution in Madagascar, a young girl was on her way to a Christian gathering when a policewoman stopped her.

“Where are you going?” the policewoman asked.

What could the poor girl say? She did not want to lie. Then, prompted by the Spirit, she replied:

“Our older brother has died, and we are meeting this evening to read his will.”

“In that case, you may go,” the policewoman answered.

A word of wisdom had helped the girl in her time of need.

How much we need Paul’s prayer for us:

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:17 (NIV)

The word of knowledge is a special revelation from the Holy Spirit concerning particular passages of Scripture. Suddenly, hidden treasures are revealed, and connections we may have overlooked become clear.

God provides guidance, strengthens our faith, and establishes new priorities for individuals and the church. The divine *Logos* (God’s written Word) becomes a *Rhema*—a personal, timely word from God.

The spiritual blessings of heaven are inexhaustible. The deeper our fellowship with our heavenly Father becomes, the more we experience His blessings.

4. God’s Blessings Can Be Hindered

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
Matthew 24:12 (NIV)

An unrepentant heart can become an obstacle to receiving God’s blessings. Disobedience can hinder the blessings He has promised.

Yet we are free to confess our failures to God and pray as David did:

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)

5. Final Thoughts

It is through an ongoing relationship with God that we can experience the fullness of His divine blessings, even here and now.

Yes, in God there is fullness. Or, to put it more precisely: God Himself is the fullness. And all the fullness of God dwells in Jesus Christ.
