Harvest Blessings – Harvest Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving for the Harvest  is a celebration that comes around every year and is traditionally observed in churches and communities.

1. The Goodness of God

God blesses the harvest in every season. His Word says:

“As long as the earth endures, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.” According Genesis 8:22

Consider the life-giving goodness of the Almighty: could this dry and lifeless earth provide a home for any living creature if the Lord did not water it? Through His goodness, He covers the earth with new growth and transforms it into fertile land.

2. The Festival of the First Sheaf

3.Mose 23,9-10 (HFA)

“Celebrate the Festival of Harvest, when you bring the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your fields.” According Exodus 23:16

The first sheaf was a sign of gratitude and an acknowledgment that the harvest ultimately comes from God.

3. The Abundance of Blessings

It is remarkable that God, who is in heaven, is nevertheless so close to us human beings.

Jakobus 1,17 (ELB)

And yet there is something no one can ever earn for themselves: God gives it freely in His goodness. According Romans 3:24

  • The animals of the field,
  • the birds of the air,
  • the plants and the trees

In short, all living things depend on the Creator, who through the gift of water performs the miracle of transforming deserts into gardens, fields, and forests.

4. Thanksgiving for the Harvest

When we give thanks to God, we look beyond the sheaf of grain to the One who gave it. We turn our eyes from the gift to the Giver and give Him the glory.

Psalm 33,1-5 (HFA)

5. Song: Pfingstjubel 10:1–2

Give thanks to the Lord!
We give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
and His goodness endures forever,
it endures forever,
it endures forever!

Praise the Lord!
Yes, praise the Lord, my soul,
and never forget all the good things He has done for you,
all the good things He has done for you.
