Gods revealed Word
Last Sunday I was in the divine service. During the worship time with singing and praise, the following words came to my mind:
He who was, who is there and who is to come, the Almighty. It was immediately clear to me that I wanted to get to the bottom of these words. Discover the truth in it, recognize the meaning.
1. God Almighty
The prophet Isaiah gives us insights into God and His greatness.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28 (ESV)
2. Jesus the Son of God
Bible text from the Gospel of John 1:1-14
John wrote the Gospel of John with the theme: Christ in his divinity. He writes: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The pre-existence of Jesus was the time when He was with God in heaven. A place where God dwells and has a throne.
The Old Testament gives a preview of Christ, the eternal Son of God.
The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.
Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. Proverbs 8:22-23 (ESV)
In the New Testament, Paul writes:
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Colossians 1:15 (ESV)
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life,[1] and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:3-5 (HFA)
3. Rejecting or accepting Jesus
He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. John 1:11 (ESV)
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, John 1:12 (ESV)
To believe in the name of Jesus means to believe that Jesus, as the Messiah and Son of God, is our Redeemer and the Mediator of eternal life, and therefore to follow Him.
Man is not a child of God by nature, but begotten by the Holy Spirit. Through God's living and eternal Word, that is the seed that has brought forth new imperishable life in you. According to 1 Peter 1:23
A child of God is a redeemed person who leads a new life through the forgiveness of his sins and through the Holy Spirit, so that he belongs to the family of God the Father.
4. The Word became flesh
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.. John 1:14 (ESV)
The Word became flesh. The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem immediately comes to mind. He became man in order to redeem us and to bear the penalty for our sins in our place. It is a mystery of God's plan of salvation.
Jesus dwelt among us. It is easy to imagine that John also thought of the eventful time he and the disciples spent with Jesus.
5. And we have beheld his glory
It is not a fleeting sight or a glance past it. To look is to look at and enjoy it. Seeing is meant realistically. Human eyes see Jesus as the Divine Word.
Peter, James and John see Jesus in his glory.
And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
Matthew 17:2+5 (ESV)
6. The Word is full of grace and truth
Grace is the saving mercy of God Jesus says of himself:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.. John 14:6 (ESV)
In the course of our text, we take a look at what is happening. This gives the insight to understand the connection. Recognition gives the opportunity to make decisions:
- To become God's child
- Give thanks for the divine revelation of his Word
- Read the Bible more to know and understand more
