Under the protection of Almighty God
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1+2 (ESV)
Psalm 91:1+2 (ESV)
1. Well shielded
For certain actions or events, a prominent patron is sought and named. For example, a mayor could be the patron of a charity, or an artist could be the patron of a cultural festival. This means that something is happening under supervision and the matter is important.
Psalm 91 speaks of what it means when God is the patron of our lives. It offers us protection. But as the patron of our lives, God does not only want to give his name and bless things that He cannot affirm.
If our lives are to proceed under his auspices, we are called upon to remain under the shadow of the Almighty. Then Almighty God is our confidence and our castle.
2. Under the protection of the Supreme
Anyone who lives under the protection of the Most High and sleeps in the shadow of the Almighty knows very well that there is someone who carries through even in dark hours. God does not let go of anyone who lets himself fall into his strong hand.
In a song sung by the group Layne, Klaus Hirschfeld has processed Psalm 91 as follows.
1. When friends leave you, loneliness creeps up on you, and the fear of the night paralyzes you and makes you restless when you least think of it, then He is there.
2. When you are set traps or told lies about you, when you are on the ground and see no way out, when you least think about it, then He is there.
3. When you are overcome by worries of illness, war, death and suffering, and you can no longer even pray because of the fear of life, when you least think of it, then He is there.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 (ESV)
What is our relationship with God? Is he sun and shield? Have we experienced Him as a protector and provider? Am I happy through Him? His care is great. God stands behind us without reservation.
3. Let go of everything and surrender to God
It is also important to let go of my worries and finances and to hand them over to God. He wants to be a daily protection for our whole lives and to be allowed to direct everything according to his thoughts!
We are allowed to live close to God and know that He is present. Happy are all those who trust you! But in order to experience God's empowered action in our lives, we must keep our end of the promise.
4. Prayer
All that I am and have is yours, God—my strengths and my weaknesses, I surrender to you. You led my life and shared your thoughts with me again and again by assigning me tasks in which I was allowed to invest my time. No one is as good as you! You have given me abundance in all areas of my life.
