The Words of Jeremiah

The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. Jeremiah 1:1 (ESV)

1. The words of Jeremiah, so begins the book of Jeremiah

The mighty hands that encompass the universe reach down and touch the mouth of the fearful boy from the countryside. The source of Jeremiah's words was the Savior's heart of God.

Words can uplift or destroy, heal or hurt. What matters is from which source they come.

The Book of Jeremiah, with
words, is the most extensive in the Bible.

2. Prophetic Words of Blessing from Jeremiah
  • I have created the earth, the people, and the animals that live on it with my strong hand and great power. According to Jeremiah 27:5
  • The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.  Jeremiah 31:3 (ESV)

  • The voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voices of those who sing, as they bring thank offerings to the house of the Lord: “‘Give thanks to the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!’ For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the Lord. Jeremiah 33:11 (ESV)

  • You recently repented and did what was right in my eyes by proclaiming liberty, each to his neighbor, and you made a covenant before me in the house that is called by my name. Jeremiah 34,15 (ESV)

  • But I still have one hope left, I hold on to it despite everything: The steadfast love of the LORD never ends, his mercy never ceases, it is new every morning! Great is your faithfulness, O Lord! According to Lamentations 3:21-24
Here's the suitable chorus for that:
The goodness of the Lord has no end, no end, His mercy never stops.
It is new every morning, new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness, O Lord!
Great is Your faithfulness, O Lord! (Songbook: "YOU ARE LORD")

The Bible emphasizes the steadfastness and imperishability of God's Word.

4. Honors of the servants of God

The Bible reports that all who belong to Jesus Christ receive an imperishable crown. The crown of righteousness:

Who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.
Psalm 103:3-4 (ESV)

It was in Canada, Vancouver. My beloved wife and I were invited to a church service on Sunday morning: A violin artist named Wannenmacher was a guest; he was already over 80 years old. He was led to the podium. With his last strength, he played a song to honor God. Then came the encouraging words of a missionary: 'My son, I have crowned you on earth, I will crown you again.'
For us, an unforgettable experience.

This coronation shows that God not only forgives our sins and heals us of our infirmities, but also surrounds us with His love and care, honors us, and places us in a special relationship with Him.

God wants all people to be saved and to be brought into eternal fellowship and into His presence.
