Divine light reveals God's glory

DE Deutsch EN English

There are events from the past that are still read or told today. The topic of divine light is part of this.

1. A praise and worship

The prophet Habakkuk. Lines from his prayer. He praises God:

His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. Habakkuk 3:4 (ESV)

2. Bright as day

And suddenly it became light. An angel of God appeared and the glory of the Lord shone around them. Don't be afraid! I announce to you great joy!

And suddenly they were surrounded by countless angels who praised God and said: Glory to God in heaven! For he brings peace to the world and turns to people in love (according to Luke 2). A great experience that is present every year. Praise and praise the Lord, you peoples!

3. A glowing cloud

Peter, James and John had climbed a high mountain with Jesus. They were all alone there. Then Jesus was transformed before their eyes: his face shone like the sun, and his clothes shone brightly. Peter cried out, Lord, how good it is that we are here! Peter immediately thought about building. But suddenly, while he was speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and from it they heard a voice: This is my beloved Son, in whom I rejoice with all my heart. You should listen to him!

4. Peter clarifies

Peter mentions this mountain experience in his second letter.

We weren't making up some clever story when we told you that our Lord Jesus would appear in power and glory. With our own eyes we have seen its magnificent greatness. We have heard the voice of God Most High. He said from heaven: This is my beloved Son, in whom I rejoice with all my heart. We now rely all the more firmly on what God has promised through his prophets. You too will do well if you listen to it. For the promises of God shine like a light in the darkness (according to 2 Peter 1).

Divine experiences strengthen our faith, what a privilege!

5. John on Patmos

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.  Revelation 1:9 (ESV)

One Sunday, John was seized by the Spirit of God. He heard a powerful voice behind him: write down everything you see. He had a vision. He heard tremendous things. Jesus' face shone brightly, like the sun. Jesus said: Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last, and I am the living one. I was dead, but now I live forever and ever. Write down what you are about to be shown – what is happening now and what will happen in the future. According to Revelation 1:10-19

6. The new heaven and the new earth

John says: I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, adorned like a bride for the bridegroom. Here God will be among the people! He will dwell with them and they will be his people.

He will wipe away all their tears. There will be no more death, no suffering, no lamentation and no more pain! Because what once was is gone forever. According to Revelation 21:1-7

7. The New City of God

Then one of the angels came to John and said, Come, I will show you the bride. God's Spirit seized John and led him to a high mountain. There he showed him the holy city of Jerusalem as it came down from God out of heaven. The city shone with the radiance of God's glory.

The city needs neither the sun nor the moon as a source of light, because the glory of God shines in it and its light is Jesus the Lamb. According to Revelation 21:10-11

8. Who can live in the city of God?

  • Those who are pure in heart
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
    Matthew 5:8 (ESV)

  • All whose sins are forgiven
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)

  • The obedient
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Matthew 7:21 (ESV)

  • The loyal ones
Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
    Revelation 2:10b (ESV)
