Jesus brings light

1. He came at night
Can we imagine that God saw Caesar Augustus as an instrument of God? Who would have thought! But God's plan had to come true! When Jesus Christ came into this world over 2000 years ago, it was night! And not just in Bethlehem. It was night for Mary and Joseph. They were looking for peace and a place to stay. But they had to flee!
At the same time it was night for the Jews. Because the Romans sent tax collectors. These demanded a lot. The emperor sent soldiers who appeared haughty and proud. They trampled the Jews into the dirt. But it wasn't just the Romans who spread "night". There were so many sick people, paralyzed people and many blind people. What misery! They looked for help - and didn't find it!
2. Political and religious night
It was also “night” for the Romans: outwardly they were large and powerful; they controlled the world at that time. But inside there were signs of decay. They were corrupt, licentious, and lost in the darkness of the night. It was "night" in the religious world, in Israel.
Even God was silent for over 400 years! Instead, the Pharisees brought new burdens through regulations. And the Jews couldn't do it!
The Romans didn't want to anger a god. But they didn't find peace either! It was similar with the Greeks. Gods were found everywhere, but none of them brought salvation and inner liberation. It was "night" in the world: of suffering, worries, disappointments and loneliness!
In our days it is no different. I think of the "night" of discord in many marriages, in families... Of the "nights" of fear, but also of guilt.
3. Jesus brought light into the night
In the middle of that night, Jesus, the Son of God, came! At that time he not only brought light to shepherds and magicians.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Luke 2:8 (ESV)

People heard the voice of God in a completely new way. Jesus brought light into the darkness. He was the light. He showed the path of love and redemption of spirit, soul and body. Jesus overlooked no one!
He did not come for just one particular group, denomination or nation. Jesus came for everyone! Wherever he went he brought hope, healing and change to lives. Can Jesus still come to you today? Christmas is when Jesus can come into your life. Come to Him today, He is already waiting for you.
…so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God So Loved the World . For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:14b-16 (ESV)
