A piece of eternity near God.
1. Doing God's Will – Living Forever
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives for ever. 1 John 2:17 (NIV)
The key concepts in this text are brought together by John, and we do well to reflect on them in order to set the right priorities for our lives.
2. The Whole Life – A Life of Worship
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2a (NIV)
The instruction “Do not conform to the pattern of this world” is meant to remind us not to become attached to things that are temporary and passing away.
This is not about outward religious legalism, but about which spirit governs us: the spirit of this world or the Holy Spirit of God. We are in the world, but we are not of the world. Accordning 1 John 2,12-17
3. God's Righteous Response to Sin
God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who reject the truth. It is alarming to see how certain forms of perversion and ungodly behavior receive public approval.
Do not live according to the desires and pleasures of this world, but find your delight in the Lord and in His Word. This is where God’s blessing rests.
4. Understanding God's Plan
In God’s Word we find many indications of His will. But knowledge alone is not enough. Those who hear the Word should become doers of the Word, so that God’s will is done not only in heaven but also on earth.
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:17 (NIV).
Those who live according to God’s will are protected from much evil and are also kept from taking wrong paths and unnecessary detours.
5. An Eternal Future in the Presence of God
Because every human being carries a glimpse of eternity within, the goal of our lives should be to spend our eternal future in God’s presence.
Choose anew today what you want to live for, and align your words, thoughts, and actions accordingly.
