Unique - wonderful

Leave my heart and seek joy in this beautiful summer time in your God's gifts... (PG)

Paul Gerhart has written a lot about nature. How happy we are when winter says goodbye and at the end of January the titmice fill the air with their chirping. Later in the evening you can hear the blackbirds talking to each other with their sounds. A listening pleasure.

God has given us rich gifts:

  • Eyes to see
  • Ears to hear
  • Nose to smell
  • Mouth to taste
  • Hands for touching and feeling

It's great when all 5 senses are healthy.

Nature reveals God's power and greatness. The universe is a revelation of power and divine essence.

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 (ESV)

1. Nature teaches us our transience

A voice says, “Cry!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass. Isaiah 40:6-7 (ESV)

2. The flowers

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin Matthew 6:28 (ESV)

What we enjoy about flowers is their diversity. Every flower is unique. Each flower has its own name. Carnations, meadow and bluebells, daisies, scabios etc.

The colors and shapes of the different flowers are as beautiful as the names. No two are alike.

Just like flowers, we humans are also unique. No two are alike. You can only be amazed at the diversity.

Their purpose: Flowers court insects in order to be pollinated. Without these flower visitors, many plants would not be able to reproduce. But without the flowers, the insects that live from them would not exist. It's a mutual take and give here. Give and take. And so the ordinances of God are observed.

A poem: Whoever is filled with love is like a blossomed flower! It shines for others - it smells for others - not for itself

3. The grass

Grass flowers are inconspicuous and are hardly noticed by insects. But that doesn't matter! They have another helper who takes care of their pollination. That's the wind!

The grass is called “the most important plant in the world.” The main food for livestock. We humans get our milk, butter and meat from these animals.

God's Word is the bread of life that feeds and sustains hungry people.

But he answered, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4 (ESV)

4. Our purpose - calling

We should not live for ourselves - self-realization, but rather take and give.

Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God. Peter 1:23 (ESV)

This is the word that is proclaimed among you. Have we received the Word, that incorruptible seed that gives eternal life?

God's word is in our hearts, in our mouths is in our hands. What great wealth. What a precious treasure.

  • Jesus says: You shall be my witnesses! Acts 1:8
  • We are called to sow. The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11
  • Everyone should know that God loved the world so much that he gave his son. John 3:16 “Jesus died on the cross” for our sins and illnesses!
