Protected under wings

DE Deutsch EN English

Protected under wings means: protection, well-being, closeness, security and warmth.

There are many parables to make a truth understandable.

A hen can lay eggs, hatch them and after 21 days the chicks break through the shell. They are always close to the hen: she attracts the chicks. She spreads her wings when danger threatens. it protects them, cares for them, and lures them to eat.

1. Jesus the Son of God compares himself to a hen

He came down from the Mount of Olives and had a great view of Jerusalem. The entire city lay spread out before him in all its beauty. But despite this wonderful view, Jesus was deeply saddened. Why? The hustle and bustle of this city was not hidden from him.

Their sin and idolatry, their political pursuit of power, their strife and strife, self-righteousness and hypocrisy. All injustice was exposed before his eyes.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!. Luke 13:34 (ESV)

2. His offer, his calling

While Jesus served here on earth, traveled through cities and markets or taught in synagogues, whether speaking to people from the mountain or from the ship: He knew his Father's mission to seek and save people.

Come to me, all you who labor and suffer under your burdens! I will give you peace. Put yourselves under my leadership! Learn from me! I don't come with violence and arrogance. With me you will find what gives your life meaning and peace. I mean well for you and do not burden you with an unbearable burden.

He called her with a heart full of love and outstretched arms. He wanted to forgive people of their sins and give eternal life. But the people didn't want to, they rejected Jesus. According to Matthew 11:28

3. Tears over a city

And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Luke 19:41-42 (ESV)

People missed the opportunity. They remained indifferent and apathetic.

4. Jesus' offer still applies today

God wants all people to be saved. God's word is God's voice. He wants to give us protection, well-being, his closeness and warmth of heart.

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice,  do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness.
Hebrews 3:7-8 (ESV)

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
