Promises, predictions have come true

DE DeutschEN English

1. The Bible is God's message for all people

This message is clear and comprehensive at the same time. It contains stories and family dramas, poetry and parables, chronicles, prayers and prophetic visions. It invites us into a life in which we can believe, love and hope with good reason.

It's amazing what's in the Bible. Also for today's inspiration, I made a discovery that surprised me. King Cyrus was announced to be great more than a hundred years before he was born.

2. The people of Israel went into captivity in Babylon for seventy years

This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. Jeremiah 25:11 (ESV)

For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place..
Jeremiah 29:10 (ESV)

3. King Cyrus the Great

King Cyrus the Great, 559 – 530 BC, is the founder of the Persian Empire. Cyrus is announced more than a century before his birth.

Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd, and he shall fulfill all my purpose’; saying of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be built,’ and of the temple, ‘Your foundation shall be laid.’
Isaiah 44:28 (ESV)

Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed.
Isaiah 45:1 (ESV)

Ezra 1:1-11 The decree of Cyrus allows the Jews to return to Jerusalem. Reconstruction of the temple.

  • Verses 1-3: He is God who is in Jerusalem

  • Verse 4: Ask for support

  • Verses 5-6: And all the people who lived around them helped them with silver vessels, with gold, and much more.

  • Verse 7: And King Cyrus brought back the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had stolen from Jerusalem. A total of 5,400 tools and vessels made of gold and silver.

  • Verse 8: Cyrus the king of Persia brought them into the care of the treasurer Midredath.

4. God's Word remains reliable

Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem.
Ezra 7:27 (ESV)
Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’
Isaiah 46:10 (ESV)

“Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.  1 Kings 8:56 (ESV)

5. The Bible is a bestseller

The Bible is a great offering and is
  • full of good words
  • the truth
  • alive and eternal
  • precious and comforting
  • powerful and encouraging
  • exciting and experiential
  • priceless and more valuable than all the gold treasures in the world
