Elihu’s Final Speech:

Fear and worry are part of our world and part of our everyday lives. Each of us has our own experiences of fear—our own thoughts about what causes it and our own ways of dealing with it.

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)


1. The Different Faces of Fear

  • the fears and anxieties surrounding the birth of a child
  • fear caused by threats against an individual or entire nations
  • fear of natural disasters

  • fear brought on by illness
  • fear connected with our assurance of salvation
  • fear caused by things we imagine might happen, even though they may never actually happen

The word 'narrowness' is contained in fear! Fear is the feeling when someone is driven into a 'tight spot'.

David complains:

I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. Psalm 6:6-7 (NIV)


2. How Does Fear Arise?

Fear can grow out of the way we treat one another. Jealousy, envy, resentment, and hostility can develop through thoughtless or hurtful behavior. And what began on a personal level can eventually lead to conflict and even war.

We see this happening in our world today. The horrifying images coming to us from war zones are difficult to bear. How many innocent people are forced to flee their homes? How many will never again see the family home and familiar surroundings they once knew? How many lives are lost every single day?


3. Final Thoughts

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (NIV)

Jesus wants to save every person and lead them into the fullness of life with God. In Him, we can finally breathe again. Jesus has promised us life in abundance. 

He sees our fears. He sees our struggles. When you are in distress, go to Him. Bring your fears to Him.

The Lord always leads us out.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11 (NIV)
