Gods Enduring Faithfulness

Faithfulness, faithfulness renders the same words that also designate faith.
Loyalty translates: steadfast, incorruptible, credible and reliable. Faithfulness is the inner attitude from which promises and obligations are fulfilled.

The fidelity of one partner is contrasted with the faith and trust of the other. Like truthfulness and faith, faithfulness and trust are related to each other.

The basis and prerequisite of all human faithfulness is the faithfulness of God. Justice, mercy, fulfillment of his promise revealed.

God revealed himself to Moses.

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
Exodus 34:6 (ESV)

1. Visible Signs of God's Faithfulness

a) Spring, summer, autumn and winter

While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22 (ESV)

b) God's statement after the Flood

I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”  And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
Genesis 9:11-13 (ESV)

c) The Pillar of Cloud and Fire

For forty years, the wandering in the desert was guided, cared for and preserved by God.

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. Exodus 13:21 (ESV)

2. Persons testify to the faithfulness of God

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 7:9 (ESV)

Jacob's statement: "Lord my God."

Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, that he may come and attack me, the mothers with the children.
Genesis 32:11 (ESV)

Jeremiah's hope in the greatest need.

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21-23 (ESV)

3. The Psalms never tire of praising God's faithfulness

See Psalms: 31:6 - 40:11-12 - 57:4 - 69:14 - 138:2 - 25:10

Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. Psalm 111:3 (ESV)

4. Jesus the faithful high priest

For God loved mankind so much that Jesus suffered death for all.

God wanted to accept many people as his children and lead them into his glorious kingdom. Jesus was to pave the way for them to get there. Jesus, the merciful and reliable High Priest, has opened wide the door to the Father's house through his atoning sacrifice.

5. Christ intercedes for us before God

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrew 4:14+16 (ESV)

The apostle John adds:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)

God's offer applies to all people. It's great and desirable. Do we want to accept God's Word and take it into our hearts and live by it? Do you want to?
