God's loving fatherly heart

DE Deutsch EN English

1. How can I get to know God’s fatherly heart – look into it?

God is invisible – far away from us humans. Can I get to know him? Yes! The Bible is the great book of God's revelation. God's love letter to us humans.

In it he shows us who he is, what he is like, what he does and what he has done. He also gives insights into his plan of salvation for the fallen world.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Hebrew 8:10 (ESV)

God wants to write his word in the hearts of his children. His will and his revelation should not remain mere knowledge for us, but should become part of our flesh and blood.

2. The comparison: father and mother

As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. Psalm 103:13 (ESV)

Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
Isaiah 49:15 (ESV)

God's love is immeasurable!

3. His power - omnipotence

For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the Lord, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:18 (ESV)

The Lord has created a living space for us in which we can feel comfortable and live in gratitude. For what men can know about God has been made known to them. Although no one can see God, he shows himself to people in his works.

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.. Romans 1:19-20 (ESV)

4. God is good!

He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
Psalm33:5 (ESV)

It shows: His kindness, compassion, attention, benevolence, affection and his goodness of heart.

5. God's visible faithfulness

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22 (ESV)

This order – covenant with us humans is irrefutable.

A prayer from David:

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15 (ESV)

6. The greatest act of love

God gave his own life, he gave his son and made him sin so that we could have access to God and his kingdom.

  • Jesus is the only Son of God
  • The sky belonged to him, but he gave it away.
  • God's Son became a servant.
  • He had perfect joy, but he allowed himself to be pierced on the cross.
  • He died on the cross. He did that for you and for me
  • God is love. His heart longs for us.

We love because he first loved us 1 John 4:19 (ESV)

We want? Let us love him, for he first loved us.

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Matthew 6:9-13 (ESV)
