Live in surrender

DE Deutsch EN English

1. Dedication out of passion

Surrender ranks just above submission on the popularity scale, and sounds like giving up.

However, in our competitive culture we are taught to never give up and never give in. We prefer to talk about success rather than about submission and self-sacrifice.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, .. Romans 12:1a (ESV)

Why should we devote ourselves to God's purposes?

 Because

  • Jesus gave us new life.
  • we experience God's mercy
  • it is God's will

2. Dedicate to God's purposes

C. S. Lewis states: The more we turn to and submit to Jesus Christ, the more we develop true personality.

Devotion can be seen in obedience and trust. Anyone who surrenders to God obeys him, even if he doesn't understand it.

The best example of devotion is Jesus. The night before his crucifixion, he once again consciously submitted to God's plan.

»Saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:42-44 (ESV)

Wholehearted devotion, means inner involvement, devoted zeal, Passion and unconditional devotion to God.

3. Voluntary devotion

God chooses Mary to be the mother of Jesus not because of her talents or her beauty, but because she gave herself completely to him.

When the angel tells us about the incredible plan, she calmly replies:

»And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:38 (ESV)

Sometimes it takes us years to realize that the greatest obstacle to God's work is not others - but ourselves - our pride and self-will.

Let us give everything to God:

  • Our past, present and future
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Fears and dreams
  • habits and injuries.

For learning:

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. Romans 6:13 (ESV)
