The fullness of grace

DE Deutsch EN English

1. Moses was shocked and very disappointed

When he returned from Mount Sinai with two tablets, Moses was very disappointed. God himself wrote the Ten Commandments.

And what had happened? The people of Israel danced and sang, the golden calf is now our God. When Moses saw and heard all this, he spoke to God. God was deeply disappointed. He wanted to start a new generation with Moses and reject the people of Israel. But Moses did not agree with this intention. He prayed with all his heart that God would grant them forgiveness. God forgave this great sin.

he Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin
Exodus 34,6-7a (ESV)

2. Grace just a word?

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. Micah 7:18 (ESV)

But what diversity does it contain:

  • Love and loyalty
  • Mercy and kindness
  • Forgiveness and mercy.
  • Mildness, salvation, forbearance and protection.

3. God says: I forgive guilt, injustice and sin

An example of forgiveness is Joseph and his brothers.

Because their father was now dead, Joseph's brothers became afraid. “What if Joseph now wants to take revenge and repay us for all the evil we have done to him?” They said to Joseph: Before our father died, he commissioned us to say to you: “Forgive your brothers! The injustice of that time! That's why we ask you now: Forgive us!" We serve the same God as you and our father!" "Please Lord, we are your servants!

But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
Genesis 50:19-21 (ESV)

The consequences of guilt and injustice are:

  • Feelings of guilt
  • Fear
  • Restlessness
  • Sleep disorders

Consequences of forgiveness are:

  • Peace
  • Freedom from the pressure of sin
  • Relationships are restored
  • Joy
  • Gratitude

4. Mercy instead of punishment

Jesus was in the temple. Many people crowded around him. He sat down and taught them. Then men dragged a woman in. They were scribes and Pharisees. They said to Jesus: Master, the woman was caught in the act. In the Law, Moses commanded that such a woman be stoned. What do you think about that?

They asked this to test Jesus and then accuse him. But Jesus just bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

When they persisted, he stood up and said, “Whoever of you has never sinned, let him be the first to throw a stone at them!”

Then he bent down again and continued writing on the ground. When the accusers heard this, they left one by one. Finally, Jesus was alone with the woman. Then he stood up again and asked them: “Where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you? “No, Lord,” she replied. “I don’t condemn you either,” Jesus replied. “You can go, but don’t sin anymore!”
According to John 8:1-11

5. Love and Grace

How great is the love and grace of God. Jesus came into the world. His death on the cross is central: God sent his Son so that through his death everyone who believes in him can be freed from the burden of guilt. Jesus died out of love for us humans in order to reconcile us with God. God's offer is great! He gives us the chance to give an answer. Prayer means talking to God.

6. Part of a song:

The love of the Savior has triumphed.
When you conquered death on the cross.
If I was redeemed, I was redeemed.

Done, done, it's done.
The path is now clear into your presence
